Hielke-Martijn De Vries, MD, Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands, discusses the findings of a study presented by Lieke Wever, MD, PhD, also from the Netherlands Cancer Institute, which evaluated risk factors for complications after dynamic sentinel node biopsy in patients with penile cancer. The study concluded that dynamic sentinel node biopsy is associated with a considerable risk of complications, however 95% of these complications were grade I-II, meaning outcomes were still favourable in comparison to inguinal lymph node dissection. The number of removed lymph nodes was found to be the primary risk factor for postoperative complications. This interview took place at the virtual European Association of Urology (EAU) Virtual Meeting 2021.
